Well, we are officially on the move. While we are still in the Valley, we are out of the house and in the hotel. The adventure has begun and an adventure it is. At times, the stress is threatening to get a bit overwhelming, but then I remember to breathe, or eat chocolate. Whatever works. And in the hecticness of it all, I just don't want to forget the moments:
- Emily telling me that she kissed the house goodbye on Monday morning. (But it is said with a big smile).
- The personnal bag packing that I asked the girls to do, so they would have their favorite stuff with them... Emily, always the planner had in her bag: her doll, favorite stuffie, books, writting pad, Nintendo DS and games (and the charger!), etc. Olivia, always the impulsive one had in her bag: her least favorite stuffie (he didn't mind being stuffed in a bag), a sticker, 2 pens, an Easter storybook and a hairbrush. What a long week it would have been for her if I hadn't packed a few extra items.
- The cat, who would not be caught in the same room as Olivia, just slowly crept up on her bed once she was asleep and is half asleep, looking at her. I am thinking that it is so touching that he actually likes her, but who knows, maybe he thinks that if he was a true Panther, she would be a little annoying snack quickly taken care of. Loving or hungry. The chances are 50-50... OK, he just licked his lips. Maybe the chances are 40-60...
- The friend who gave me this gigantic hug goodbye, the kind 3 times her size and who had tears in her eyes. You know who you are and I hope you know that the quick getaway and the light banter are just a way to hide the fact that if I slow down too much right now, the tears are going to start and may not stop for a long, too long time. And who wants to move with a stuffy nose? (See, the light banter again, to avoid getting water stains on the computer...)
- Looking at the little angels sleeping with abandon right now, I am wondering how they can be such instruments of torture if you share a bed with them... I shared my bed with Olivia, aka The Pancake who kept flip-floping all night, until she settled comfortably on my back (at least she was finally still...). Paul shared his bed with Emily, aka The Invader, who for a little thing, can hog 85.7 % of a double bed... Yes, we got her a cot tonight! And so far, The Pancake is still... she is probably waiting for me to get in.
- The uplifting realisation that while I liked my home in Kentville, it is not heart-wrenching to say goodbye. There were so many happy moments in it, but I realise with relief that it is the memories I cherish, not the location where they happen, and that I don't need to be in that spot to relive them in my mind. It remains to be seen if I feel the same after I close the door for the last time tomorrow on the empty house!
- While in transit, I finally have a valid reason for a drive-through breakfast at McDonald's regularly... Before, I had excuses, not reasons!

And you know I don't cry easy, so that should give you an idea of how I feel. I know I have not really been available since Christmas time because of "life", and our friendship has operated a bit differently since certain events occurred, but it does not mean I value you any less. Great friendships are mercurial and not to expect change is too rigid and places too many expectations on others. This is a good move for you and your family. And you have grabbed the adventure by the you-know-whats...I'm proud of you! SKYPE IS THE ANSWER.
ReplyDeleteThat's it! Now I am crying!
ReplyDeleteKeep on Evelyne! You are doing great! I wish I could be closer... but we will be, soon!
Love you!
